About The Position

Under limited supervision, enforce special infractions of municipal ordinances, support Police Officers with calls for service, provide traffic control and perform public service tasks. Work varies somewhat, within prescribed standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Computer skills
  • A valid Nebraska Driver’s License
  • Must possess good character as determined by thorough background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce parking laws (e.g., issues parking citations) for purposes of deterring violations; mark vehicles and issue parking citations for overtime parking; intake and release vehicles from the impound lot; provide traffic control.
  • Enforce codes dealing with abandoned vehicles, signs, animals, and other related matters; notify violators and make follow-up inspections to determine compliance; answer public inquiries; prepare routine operational and unit records.
  • Respond to and document motor vehicle collisions on private property; provide exchange of information service for involved drivers (only crashes that do not meet state reportable criteria or require police action/arrest).
  • Assist with escorting vehicles or material within the city (funerals, parades, construction equipment, etc.).
  • Assist with community events and community policing activity.
  • Capture and impound stray animals; provide information and directions to citizens and visitors.
  • Deliver inter-departmental mail; complete data entry into a computerized database and perform filing duties for the purpose of permanent storage and retrieval; May collect evidence and appear in court.
  • Perform overtime as required; and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, officials and the public.
  • Regular timely/punctual attendance.
  • Understand, interpret and communicate code requirements thoroughly and accurately.
  • Inspect property for compliance.
  • Efficiently and effectively handle complaints received.
  • Prepare, organize and file records, reports and other documents.
  • Effectively enforce parking violations.
  • Operate both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Maintain and improve knowledge of parking regulations, office procedures, machine operations, City operations and policies.
  • Prepare, organize and file citations, records, reports and other documents.
  • Maintain and exhibit discretion and integrity at all times when handling confidential information.
