About The Position

The YMCA of Southern Interior BC is seeking adaptable, energetic, and reliable Community Programs Support Workers to provide casual coverage across a variety of community-based programs serving children and youth from Grades 1–12. This role supports programs including Beyond the Bell, Back on Track, Take a Hike, and other YMCA community services. The position offers flexibility, variety, and the opportunity to build relationships across multiple program sites and age groups. YMCA Community Programs create opportunities for children and youth to learn, connect, and succeed. As a Community Programs Support Worker, you play an important role in fostering positive experiences, encouraging personal growth, and helping participants build meaningful relationships. This position contributes directly to creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments where young people can develop confidence, social connections, and a strong sense of belonging within their communities.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children and/or youth in educational, recreational, community, or support-based settings.
  • Ability to work effectively with participants across a broad age range (Grades 1–12).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience supporting diverse populations and inclusive programming.
  • Strong organization, professionalism, and adaptability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between program locations.

  • Service-oriented and dedicated to creating positive participant experiences.
  • Skilled at building collaborative relationships with children, families, schools, and community partners.

  • Provide three professional references.
  • Successfully complete a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search issued within six months of the start date.
  • Ability to work at multiple school, community, and YMCA locations.
  • Ability to participate in both indoor and outdoor program activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Education in Child & Youth Care, Education, Recreation, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the successful delivery of YMCA community programs for children and youth across multiple sites and program environments.
  • Provide coverage and support at various YMCA Community Program locations as required.
  • Assist in delivering engaging programs for children and youth in Grades 1–12.
  • Support daily activities, supervision, participant engagement, and group management.
  • Foster safe, inclusive, welcoming, and positive program environments.
  • Build respectful relationships with participants, families, school staff, community partners, and YMCA colleagues.
  • Support participants in developing confidence, social skills, life skills, and community connections.
  • Assist with activity preparation, program setup, transitions, and cleanup.
  • Provide encouragement and individualized support to participants when needed.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, and required documentation.
  • Communicate participant needs, concerns, and program updates with supervisors and team members.
  • Adapt effectively to different program sites, age groups, schedules, and team environments.
  • Support special events, outings, and community-based activities as required.
