About The Position

Are you passionate about mental health, substance misuse prevention, and community wellness? The Alliance for Prevention & Wellness (APW), a program of BHcare, is seeking a Community Prevention Intern to gain hands-on experience supporting evidence-based prevention initiatives throughout South Central Connecticut. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside prevention professionals, community partners, schools, healthcare organizations, and local coalitions while developing practical skills in public health, prevention programming, data analysis, community outreach, and program evaluation. About APW The Alliance for Prevention & Wellness serves as the Regional Behavioral Health Action Organization (RBHAO) for South Central Connecticut. APW works to prevent substance misuse, promote mental health and wellness, reduce suicide, and build healthier communities through collaboration, education, and evidence-based prevention strategies.

Requirements

  • Currently matriculated in an accredited college or university degree program.
  • Interest in public health, behavioral health, psychology, social work, community health, public policy, or related fields.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse community stakeholders.
  • Interest in data collection, evaluation, and prevention programming.
  • Commitment to promoting health equity and community wellness.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating community-based prevention initiatives.
  • Support substance misuse prevention, suicide prevention, and mental health promotion efforts.
  • Assist with community outreach events, prevention campaigns, and presentations.
  • Attend coalition meetings and engage with community partners to support collaborative prevention planning.
  • Help conduct community needs assessments, surveys, and environmental scans.
  • Assist with collecting, analyzing, and interpreting community-level data
