About The Position

KABOOM! works nationally to achieve playspace equity, ensuring every child has access to high-quality playspaces. They achieve this by empowering communities to build inspiring play spaces that create unlimited opportunities for children everywhere. KABOOM! views the right to play as a social justice issue, recognizing that systemic racism has led to disparities in play access for communities of color, and therefore centers racial equity in its pursuit of playspace equity. Community Outreach Managers (COM) are responsible for identifying and confirming child-serving organizations for playground project grants, assisting potential grantees through a rigorous screening process, and preparing them for playground projects. The COM role requires tenacity, organization, and strong communication skills. This internship offers a college student, recent graduate, or graduate student the opportunity to support Community Outreach Managers by learning to conduct market research for viable local organizations, outreach to potential grant candidates, shadow team members, and assist in data organization and presentation.

Requirements

  • A matriculating college student who has earned enough credits for a sophomore status, or a student who has graduated from college within the preceding six months.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proactivity and personal initiative to accomplish work and manage challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work approximately 30 hours per week.
  • Must have a valid US driver’s license.
  • Ability and willingness to build relationships across differences and discuss issues of structural and institutional racism.
  • Ability to maintain acceptable standards of conduct and work cooperatively as an effective team member of a diverse and inclusive workforce.
  • Communicates with others, sits, or moves about the office to coordinate work and uses a computer as well as other office equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to travel independently, leading events with extended hours of moving about in various weather conditions.
  • In some circumstances, able to lift or move objects unassisted up to 60 pounds with the ability to operate basic hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Research geography-specific demographic, income and racial data to identify areas of greatest need and create outreach strategies to target these areas.
  • Review applications from potential partners for KABOOM! project opportunities.
  • Analyze and assess organizations for site viability, construction logistics, and Build Week execution.
  • Draft professional Community Partner profiles for funding recommendation.
  • Creating project collateral, such as flyers, posters, online surveys, draft emails, etc.
  • Utilize Salesforce to log activities, communicate internally, post updates, and update cross-team records.
  • Administrative duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Stipend: $15 per hour
