Community Nutrition Worker assess program eligibility, determines risk, provides nutrition and breastfeeding education and counseling, and prescribes supplemental foods. This role involves assigning appropriate food packages for clients, ensuring proper documentation for special formulas and foods, and recording client complaints regarding vendors. The position requires taking and recording client measurements accurately, assessing growth during pregnancy, and explaining findings to clients. A key responsibility is assessing each client’s nutrition status and providing participant-centered nutrition counseling, including assessing and documenting nutrition risks and developing individual care plans with clients. High-risk clients are referred to a Registered Dietitian. The role also promotes and supports breastfeeding, assesses breastfeeding status, provides basic counseling, and refers complex issues to experts. Issuing breast pumps, educating mothers on their use and milk storage, and following up are also part of the duties. The Community Nutrition Worker will conduct vendor site reviews, document all client interactions and services, and provide WIC nutrition classes and food preparation demonstrations. They may also perform clerk or certifier duties as needed and must maintain current knowledge in nutrition and breastfeeding through ongoing education. Confidentiality of client and vendor information is paramount, and referrals to health and social services with follow-up are required. Annual civil rights training is mandatory, along with performing other similar duties as requested by supervisors.
