About The Position

Ounce is a community-based service model that uses technology to provide services to residents of affordable housing properties, aiming to improve engagement and outcomes. They are seeking creative and kind teammates to join their mission. The Community Navigator is a critical, part-time, community-based, resident-facing role that requires consistency, follow-through, and reliability. The role involves being physically present on-site during scheduled hours and prepared to engage residents consistently. The Community Navigator will act as an Outreach & Engagement Specialist, Benefits Specialist & Service Coordinator, and Relationship Builder. This role is best suited for someone who can commit to a set schedule, communicate early and honestly, and take ownership of their presence and responsibilities on-site.

Requirements

  • Experience navigating government benefits (e.g., SNAP, TANF, LIHEAP, Medicaid) and coordinating care with local organizations.
  • Excited by "boots on the ground" opportunities, including community organizing, and enjoy customer-service roles.
  • Must embody a "residents come first" mentality.
  • Understand the unique opportunities and challenges affordable housing residents face.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to commit to a set schedule.
  • Speak Cantonese/Mandarin and English fluently.

  • Ideally, have lived in the area and/or worked in a community-based role.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage residents within affordable housing communities, building trust in Ounce's mission through creative methods like door-to-door flyering, hosting community events, tabling, and phone-based outreach.
  • Schedule doctor’s appointments, assist residents in applying for eligible benefits (e.g., SNAP, TANF, LIHEAP), and act as their health & wellness advocate.
  • Balance multiple responsibilities and tasks, make and track referrals within the technology platform, and follow through with residents promptly and reliably.
  • Build trust and respect with residents, convene and listen to residents, and identify their needs proactively.
  • Work closely with community partners across the St. Marys area.
  • Accurately document all outreach, services provided, referrals, and resident interactions in the Ounce platform in a timely manner.
  • Build and maintain local partnerships that align with resident needs and support community programming.
  • Plan, coordinate, and host ongoing on-site programming and events, ensuring each property has consistent monthly engagement opportunities for residents.
  • Attend required team meetings, trainings, and check-ins, and participate fully as a member of the Ounce community team.

Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $24–$28 per hour
