About The Position

The Community Mortgage Lender establishes and maintains relationships with community-based organizations, Realtors, and government agencies which result in lending opportunities to ensure full compliance with the Community Reinvestment Act. Sells and originates Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) mortgage loans in an assigned community market serving low to moderate income borrowers. Maintains 50% of business as CRA eligible. Establishes and enhances the Bank’s community presence by participating in trade shows, conferences, seminars, and related events, meeting and interacting with various housing agencies and governmental entities focused on CRA initiatives, conducting multiple first-time home buyer seminars annually, organizing customer appreciation events, seminars, and conference calls, and creating strategic partnerships with non-profit organizations with down payment assistance programs. Develops and expands referral sources to regularly generate new CRA mortgage loans and S&T products. Meets local Realtors, Brokers, builders, developers, and other centers of influence to establish relationships. Participates in CRA events, meetings, and forums. Acts as key educational resource on affordable products, guidelines, and outreach. Develops a library of CRA resources and provides job-specific training and communication to enterprise-wide lending staff guiding Fair Lending regulations. Maintains a proficient knowledge of products, processes, guidelines, and regulatory requirements in conjunction with mortgage regulations, CRA, and Bank policies and practices. Serves as customer advocate and enters complete and accurate loan mortgage applications by delivering exceptional levels of customer service, preparing supporting materials, submitting completed application packages to Retail Mortgage Lending for processing within 48 hours, maintaining communication with processors and underwriters, and following up on information and documentation required for processing and closing conditions. Assists in the development of new products to ensure the Bank’s lending programs are designed to enable communities to purchase business and build financial security. Monitors market area for interest rates and products. Assists in coordinating product development and marketing efforts to realtors. Cross-sells other Bank products and services. Refers new customers to Branch Managers for additional services with a focus on deposit franchise. Maintains a good working relationship with all bank employees. Demonstrates the ability to work independently. Works as a team player to contribute to the success of the department and in turn the organization.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus specialized training or two-year degree.
  • NMLS certification and annual maintenance required to originate loans.
  • Proof of registration with the registry and verification of a unique identifier as established under the guidelines of the S.A.F.E. Act is required upon hire and/or must be obtained prior to performing the duties of a Mortgage Loan Originator, as defined by the Act.
  • This registration must be maintained annually in accordance with the S.A.F.E. Act.
  • Requires S.A.F.E. Act certification.
  • Five to ten years general business experience.
  • Two to five years specialized experience required including knowledge of CRA and down payment assistance programs.
  • A strong knowledge and sales background supports success in the origination of mortgages.
  • Operates a keypad device: 60-70% of the day.
  • Travels occasionally to alternate work locations.
  • Use of manual dexterity skills for typing and data entry up to 40% of the business day.
  • Standing required 10-20% of the day.
  • Sitting 60-70%.
  • Walking 10% of the day.
  • Routinely lifts 10 pounds 10-20% of the day.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision of 18”-20” for computer work and travel.
