About The Position

Good Shepherd is seeking to fill 1 Community Mental Health Worker position for our 24-hour supportive housing program in Niagara. This role involves working with supportive housing residents living with the challenges of mental illness, substance use, and a history of homelessness. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will help tenants maintain stable housing, develop independent living skills, and foster a sense of community and belonging. The position operates within trauma-informed, harm reduction frameworks.

Requirements

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related health or human services field
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working with people impacted by issues such as homelessness, mental health challenges and substance use.
  • Knowledge of community resources and health and human services systems
  • A demonstrated understanding of Harm Reduction best practices and overdose prevention strategies
  • An understanding of and ability to employ community development approaches
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Superior written and spoken communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in various software platforms
  • Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation
  • Flexibility to work a rotating 12- hour schedule

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified
  • Valid Driver's license is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one assistance to residents transitioning into and maintaining housing.
  • Offer supportive counselling, case management, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and advocacy to help residents achieve personal goals and enhance quality of life.
  • Provide education and resources on harm reduction and overdose prevention.
  • Support residents in accessing medical care, mental health services, and withdrawal management and treatment programs as appropriate.
  • Work with community partners to provide coordinated support.
  • Identify community needs and contribute to the development and facilitation of resident driven programs, including social, recreational and educational activities.
  • Encourage resident participation through committees and community events that foster empowerment and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation, complete required reports and statistics, and contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement activities.
  • Work in compliance with all Good Shepherd Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors.
