About The Position

Gilbane is seeking a Community Impact & Engagement Specialist to lead the implementation of business and/or workforce inclusion programs and activities to maximize the involvement of diverse-owned and small businesses and local and diverse trade workforce on construction projects. This role supports a portfolio of construction projects in the execution of community impact plans. This role will sit primarily in the office. Gilbane is a family-owned business with 45 offices that has been shaping communities since 1870. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of experience in community impact/supplier diversity, consulting, or community relations
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for diversity and impact advocacy
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; advanced Excel abilities & use of spreadsheets and database systems
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of the Construction industry
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and fact-finding abilities
  • Ability to learn and utilize business enterprise and/or workforce compliance platforms

Responsibilities

  • Develops and fosters relationships with external stakeholders including organizations, clients, and small and diverse businesses
  • Participates in community events and organizational activities that promote community impact and engagement or provide networking opportunities
  • Provides support materials for proposals/presentations
  • Supports planning of outreach events for small and diverse businesses and/or trade workforce
  • Maintains documentation of outreach activities
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of procedures on how to work with Gilbane
  • Maintains lists of local diverse-owned and small businesses
  • Supports development and maintenance of the Community Impact Plan and the Community Impact Roadmap
  • Advocates for small and diverse businesses throughout the buy-out process
  • Tracks small and diverse participation against goals
  • Tracks workforce participation against goals
  • Prepares status reports for review by management
  • Audits prequalification records to determine registered and approved small and diverse-owned and small businesses and their status
  • Track small and diverse participation and workforce participation against goals primarily for Chicago but may include Wisconsin and Indiana
