The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) aims to eliminate health inequities that lead to premature mortality. CHECW operates with a strong foundation in historical and structural analysis, working to increase the visibility of socially unjust policies and advocate for redress for New York City communities most affected. The center collaborates with community, faith-based, and healthcare organizations to address inequities across community and healthcare systems. CHECW's focus includes social determinants of health, such as environmental and commercial factors, addressing both upstream and downstream influences to enhance the health and well-being of New Yorkers. The division comprises several bureaus, including the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, which is seeking to hire five (5) Community Health Workers. These roles are part of the Neighborhood Health Action Centers, which utilize a place-based, community-centered approach to improve health outcomes and mitigate the effects of policies that worsen health inequity.
