About The Position

The Community Health Nurse Supervisor for the Department of Health helps move vital public health initiatives forward. This position gives you the opportunity to lead skilled professionals and support programs that make a difference in local communities. Your work will help strengthen services that protect and promote health across the state. This position guides nursing and public health staff to ensure high quality services that support the mission of the Bureau of Community Health Systems. It plays a key role in strengthening the workforce and improving community health efforts statewide.

Requirements

  • Three years as a Community Health Nurse (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of community health nursing experience; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a public health educator and population health nurses to support consistent and effective service delivery
  • Plan and evaluate public health activities, emergency responses, and outreach efforts
  • Design, conduct, and assess training for nursing and public health support staff
  • Teach public health fundamentals and provide follow-up coaching to strengthen clinical skills
  • Participate in shaping and applying guidelines that influence nursing practice and service quality
  • Review required certifications, education needs, and documentation to maintain staff competency
