About The Position

In late 2015, Amazon launched Seattle's first Community Banana Stand to connect with the community. Now, we're bringing the fun to Sunnyvale, CA by cruising through town on a banana-filled e-bike and spreading joy along the way! The Community Banana Stand is a fun way to connect with the community. The program brings moments of joy to corporate sites and surrounding areas. Northwest Center staffs the stands with upbeat "Banistas" who make each interaction special. As our Community Engagement e-Cyclist, you'll be the friendly face that makes people's day. You'll spend your days riding our signature banana bike throughout Sunnyvale, CA, parking to hand out free bananas, delivering 5-star customer service, and creating memorable interactions everywhere you go. From greeting familiar faces to meeting new people, you'll spark conversations, spread positivity, and help build meaningful connections throughout the community. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys being outdoors, staying active, and connecting with people. Every banana is an opportunity to brighten someone's day, create lasting impressions, and bring enthusiasm and positive energy to every stop.

Requirements

  • GED or high school diploma required.
  • 1 year customer service experience.
  • 6 months experience operating bicycle in an urban environment.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Commitment to personal and road safety practices.

  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors.
  • Ability to perform subtraction, multiplication and division for equations up to 3 digits.
  • Must be proficient with MS Windows, Excel, and Outlook e-mail.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with leadership, co-workers, and visitors.
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive to the bike storage location ready to work at scheduled time, in provided Banista uniform.
  • Perform opening Safety Check, set-up and/or closing procedures; ensuring all program related items are placed in appropriate locations.
  • Greet and engage every visitor to the bike in a friendly, warm, professional and courteous manner. Bike Banistas are required to provide a 5-star impression at all times.
  • Unload bananas from boxes into the bike’s crates, while separating bananas into individual pieces and removing any bruised or damaged fruit.
  • Keep the bike’s crates full and plentiful for the duration of operating hours.
  • Ensure the bike is organized and clean at all times.
  • Track daily metrics in tracking software on distribution, compost, carry-over cases, and additional areas as specified by leadership.
  • Track all comments, general inquiries, and public response to identify common themes and emergency situations needing attention.
  • Contribute to monthly inventory counts on bike assets.
  • Report all bike repairs needed to leadership.
  • Support Banana Stand openings, as needed.
  • Support the redistribution of bananas across stands, as needed.
  • Suggest operational improvements to leadership, as needed.
  • Attend trainings for new process rollouts and uphold process changes.
  • Interact with the public and discern security issues if they arrive, ability to follow security escalation requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned for needed duration.
