About The Position

The primary purpose of this position located within VE (Handicraft/ VE Originals) is to train basic vocational skills to small groups of individuals with developmental, behavioral and/or physical disabilities. This position will be responsible for ensuring deadline dates for products ordered are met, checking accuracy and daily documentation of work performed. This position will be responsible for providing input for some goal planning, activities, and recommendations regarding work assignments based on skills and abilities. This position will be responsible for conducting assessments to determine appropriate skill development. This position will also be responsible for designing and constructing crafts (e.g., floral design, woodworking, jewelry making, detail painting) for sale in V.E. Originals store with the assistance from the individuals who live at the Center. ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Requirements

  • Must have ability to obtain NVCI, First Aid, and CPR certifications.
  • Will be required to successfully complete the Murdoch Developmental Center “Basic Training Series”; which includes, but is not limited to program library training, First Aid, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques (NVCI), CPR, Body Mechanics and lifting.
  • Must have the ability to pass a physical requirements test.
  • Must be in good standing with the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry.
  • At least one year of experience performing tasks similar to the ones assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using behavior management techniques, task analysis techniques and teaching strategies for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in a vocational setting.
  • Experience utilizing teaching/training techniques and strategies to promote progress.
  • Ability to functionally use MS Word to type progress/activity notes.
