About The Position

As a Community Corrections Program Monitor at the Iowa Department of Corrections-Second District, you will be a direct service provider in a 24-hour community-based corrections facility, engaging in high-contact interactions with clients. Your role will focus on eliciting and supporting pro-social behaviors through programming designed for personal growth and reduced reoffending. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to observe and assess client behaviors, utilizing effective behavior change techniques such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral strategies. Your responsibilities will include supporting case managers and clients in achieving their goals, with consideration for individual needs, disabilities, trauma, and cultural responsiveness. Safety is a priority, and you will be trained to respond to emergencies using appropriate defensive tactics and life-saving measures. The role requires integrity, ethical conduct, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in any field, and experience equal to one year of full-time work in human services, criminal justice, or corrections.
  • A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience).
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer 1 or Residential Officer Senior.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to build quality relationships with clients.
  • Integrity, ethical conduct, and attention to detail.
