Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Licensing & Enforcement, Compliance, this position is responsible for the enforcement and administration of municipal by-laws including but not limited to the Town’s Parks, Noise, Road Occupancy, Community Standards, and Parking by-laws.

Requirements

Post secondary diploma/ degree
Minimum 1 year experience in an enforcement related role
Certified Municipal Law Enforcement Officer or able to obtain Certification within three years
A valid Ontario Driver’s License Class G with a satisfactory driving record
Satisfactory Criminal Record check is required
Strong problem-solving skills, and proven ability to resolve disputes in a manner that supports a high level of customer service

Nice To Haves

Certificate/diploma in Police Studies/ Foundations, Law & Security, Justice & Administration or related field
Experience in enforcement processes as it relates to municipal and provincial legislation
Experience interpreting by-laws and provincial legislation pertaining to municipal law enforcement and licensing
Knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act (POA) and administrative penalty notices
Proficient in Windows based software, enforcement tracking software and parking control software

Responsibilities

Provide the public, and internal and external parties with information and assistance on related areas of enforcement including Town by-laws and policies, Provincial Acts and regulations and other information as appropriate
Build positive relationships with residents, businesses, and community groups by promoting awareness of Town by-laws, policies, and compliance expectations through Town of Milton programs such as Be a Good Neighbour.
Conducts foot and vehicle patrols for assigned areas, responds to, and documents all inquiries and complaints from the public, and law enforcement agencies with respect to the enforcement and administration of municipal by-laws under the authority of the Municipal Act.
Patrolling on-street and off-street parking areas, identifying and investigating by-law infractions.
Monitoring compliance, responding to complaints and requests for enforcement of parking prohibitions
Issuing parking infraction notices
Coordinates towing of unauthorized vehicles in accordance with Halton Region Police and Tow Policies
Creating, opening and updating electronic files
Ability to collect investigative records, including detailed written notes, photographic documentation, and any other evidence necessary to support enforcement actions.
Prepares compliance documentation for violations including notices, orders and investigative reports.
Serves notices stating specific defects to property owners or occupants and advises of remedial measures required to comply with Town legislation
Issues Part 2 offence notices and administrative penalties
Prepares tribunal documentation and presents evidence regarding municipal enforcement matters
