We anticipate the need for one or more Communication Technician I to be located at 414 Nicollet Ave in Minneapolis, MN. The starting rate of pay for this position will be $64.32 per hour. This position will be posted for 10 Working Days from April 28, 2026, to May 11, 2026. Summary Duties are the installation, maintenance and troubling shooting of Xcel Energy’s private and public Voice, Data network equipment and circuits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical experience in communications/electronics or equivalent.
  • Successfully pass EEI TECH B test.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 70 pounds.
  • Requires participation in after-hour emergency callouts in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in extreme hot and cold temperatures, at high heights, in noisy atmospheres.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Willing to travel throughout the region area often with overnight stays.
  • Self-motivated person and willing to work on his or her own.
  • Ability to obtain BICSI Technician certification upon being eligible to acquire.
  • Ability to obtain MN Power Limited License or higher upon being eligible to acquire.
  • Ability to obtain Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional certifications in telecommunications and data systems.
  • Additional education and experience with telecommunication and data systems.
