About The Position

The Communications Specialist is a dynamic and versatile storyteller who will craft engaging, accurate, and impactful content that elevates the voice of WeGo Public Transit. This role supports both internal and external communications, develops compelling newsletters, assists the Public Information Officer (PIO) with agency-wide messaging, and ensures all communications reflect our brand, values, and strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, a keen editorial eye, and the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences across multiple platforms.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
Minimum of three years of professional writing or editorial experience (preferably in a public-facing communications role)
Experience with newsletter production and website content management systems
Knowledge of AP Style and best practices in professional communications
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, polished communications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and various email distribution services

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)

Responsibilities

Write, edit, and produce engaging content for newsletters (internal and external), announcements, and campaigns
Support the PIO in crafting, refining, and delivering clear, consistent messaging for the agency
Review, proofread, and edit current messaging to ensure accuracy, clarity, and brand alignment
Develop content for multiple channels, including email, print, website, and social media.
Tailor communications to reach and resonate with varied audiences, from employees to community partners
Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure all messaging supports agency goals
Assist in preparing talking points, press materials, and stakeholder communications
Provide editorial guidance to maintain brand voice, tone, and style consistency
Monitor and evaluate communications for clarity, engagement, and impact
Partner with departments to gather stories, updates, and information for internal communications
Promote employee engagement through creative, informative, and inspiring messaging
Support initiatives that foster a connected and informed workplace culture
Assist with events, campaigns, and outreach efforts as needed
Obtain estimates from printers and other specialty advertising companies and complete appropriate internal paperwork for purchase orders, processing invoices, etc. as needed
Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
Perform additional communications-related duties as assigned by management
