About The Position

This position is a member of the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget Communications team and provides communications support for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). The position coordinates and implements IT-specific communications, with a particular focus on writing and editing nontechnical content on technical subjects. The position will work with IT subject-matter experts, leaders, and project managers within OCTO to research and write for various mediums, including email, intranet sites, presentations, educational resources, video/tutorial scripts, etc.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, public relations or a related field.
  • Communications Representative 10: One year of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative 9.
  • Communications Representative P11: Two years of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative, including one year equivalent to a Communications Representative 10.
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 16 semester (24 term) credits in any combination of coursework in the following areas: English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, marketing, or public relations, AND two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Must be organized, with good time management skills and know the importance of a timeline.
  • Must be reliable, honest and who keeps their commitments to colleagues and clients.
  • Must be able to seek effective solutions to help resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Must be an excellent communicator, meaning you can effectively give oral and written reports, and prepare clear and concise documentation both verbally and electronically.
  • Must have a team-oriented mindset, able to embrace diversity and be capable of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of professionals.
  • Must attach three (3) writing samples to your application as separate documents labeled “Required Writing Sample”. The document should include name of project, (Press Release, Internal Communication Project, Video/Editing Project) the date it was created or delivered and name of the organization for which it was created.
