Dedicated members of the department contribute to the teaching of interdisciplinary programs at both the undergraduate level and the graduate level, as well as bringing their interdisciplinary interests to their English courses. Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich history and geographical diversity of the literary tradition in English, a fascinating conversation spanning over a thousand years and connecting nations and peoples all across the globe. Reporting to the Department Manager and under the general direction of the Department Chair, the Communications Officer is responsible for the design, development and dissemination of the Department’s communications and marketing materials. Responsibilities include writing, editing, and producing materials that are designed to inform of the activities and achievements of the Department and support the realization of the Department’s goals. The position ensures communications are consistent and effective, advising on key messages that align with the Department’s priorities, and the University’s and Faculty’s strategic goals and messaging. The position utilizes digital media channels to develop and enhance the profile of the Department and uses metrics and other forms of evaluation to enhance and improve the efficacy and impact of the stories we tell. The position supports internal Department communications activities, and supports internal Department communications platforms for online collaboration and information dissemination. In addition, the position assists with data gathering activities to address various Departmental needs. The position supports Departmental events and outreach activities, both online and in-person, in terms of planning, execution, promotion and connecting with relevant University resources, including to support alumni and donor relations. The position also builds and maintains relationships within the Faculty and broader University communications network, and with current students, faculty, alumni and donors. In addition, this position will work closely with the administrative staff team to provide support for regular operational activity. This is a term opportunity until January 2028.
