About The Position

The Communications Manager for Bell Textron Canada leads a team of two (2) communications professionals responsible for defining, developing, managing and executing the day-to-day internal and external communication strategies. This includes management of brand reputation in the community, sponsorship initiatives, crisis communication response, building and maintaining strong media network and support workforce development and engagement programs, along with execution of high-profile regional events, distinguished visits and key customer delivery ceremonies. The Manager will work onsite at Bell’s Commercial Centre of Excellence in Mirabel, QC facility, accountable to Bell Textron Canada’s leadership team and report functionally to the Senior Manager of Global Strategic Communications, located at Bell Global Corporate Headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. This is a highly matrixed role that collaborates closely with Bell’s Global Marketing, Communications teams, Government and Community Affairs, as well as other key stakeholder groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business or a related field
  • At least 8 years professional experience in a communications role in business-to-business and/or business-to-government organization
  • At least 3 years of team management experience
  • Fluent French and English speaking and writing capability
  • Experience in managing projects, with a “roll up the sleeves and get it done” approach. Must be able to work independently as well as leading a team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and with agility in a matrixed organization
  • Proven experience with strategic planning, messaging strategy, corporate communications, public relations, brand development, content development, writing, web and social media, project management, presentation development, vendor/agency management, budget management
  • Proven C-suite support for thought leadership, speaking opps, media interviews, panels or external engagements
  • Proven track record designing and executing successful strategic communication and public relations campaigns on a local level
  • Strong relationships with both local and national trade and industry media outlets
  • Experience acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Immense personal initiative to anticipate requests before they are received
  • Ability to travel up to 10%25 of the time (including occasional travel to US Bell sites)
  • Any other combination of schooling and experience deemed equivalent may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as communications advisor to site leadership and lead communication requirements for executives, including presentation development, coaching, interview talking points and speech writing.
  • Manage communications team in Mirabel, including day-to-day direction, career development, resource allocation, performance plans, and other personnel matters.
  • Partner with integrated working group to promote Bell Textron in Canada as a key enabler to Bell’s commercial and defence business.
  • Develop media relations strategy in Canada, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media to support campaign goals and objectives in coordination with matrixed team.
  • Ensure full integration and coordination of site communications into Bell enterprise communication plans.
  • Work in tandem with peers from the headquarters in external and internal communications, marketing, and government affairs, and with colleagues from other sites to ensure consistency of message and brand across the enterprise.
  • Support and leverage participation in tradeshows and industry events participation.
  • Plan, coordinate and support corporate giving budgets and opportunities.
  • Plan, coordinate and support internal communications channels and actions to promote key events, share Bell news and customer wins.
  • Advise digital team to engage and grow audiences across Canada via traditional and new media.
  • In partnership with government affairs, execute strategic engagements and visits with government officials.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, monitor industry issues and competitive landscape and adjusts company positioning and messaging and makes appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy as required.
