About The Position

The Communications Manager is responsible for leading the planning, development, and implementation of the First Nation’s internal and external communications strategies. The Communications Manager supports the organization’s reputation and community engagement by ensuring timely, accurate, and culturally respectful communications across all channels, including print, digital, media relations, and the website.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in communications/public relations, including coordinating multi-channel communications
  • Minimum of 2 years of Supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of internal and external communications plans and activities
  • Oversee the creation, review, and coordination of communications content (newsletters, flyers, website updates, social media, community notices, promotional materials)
  • Ensure consistent messaging, tone, and branding across departments and communication channels
  • Oversee media relations activities, including responding to media inquiries and coordinating media opportunities
  • Review, approve, and oversee the preparation and distribution of press releases and media advisories
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and performance management for direct reports, including workload coordination, training support, and regular check-ins
