Are you a creative, organized, and results-driven student interested in graphic design and communications? The AARP State and Community Engagement team is looking for you! This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in content creation, digital design, and communication strategies across various platforms, including social media, web, email, and video. You will have an opportunity to work as part of a team that supports the mission of AARP and collaborates with offices across the nation. If you have graphic design skills, the ability to track multiple projects, experience in social media content creation, a customer-service approach, and a passion for storytelling, we’d love to hear from you! This remote paid internship has an anticipated start date of Fall 2026 and can continue through the end of the year with the potential for extension. This can be a fully remote position and can be performed from anywhere in the United States and its territories.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university as rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or postdoctoral students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
  • Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)
  • Experience in creating and publishing social media content for Facebook and X, and familiarity with social media publishing platforms (e.g., Sprinklr)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A creative mindset with attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting
  • A strong customer/client-service approach to supporting staff
  • Regular and reliable job attendance
  • Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships
  • Independent judgment in evaluation options to make sound decisions
  • Home office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate home environment noise

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of website management tools (e.g., Adobe Experience Manager) is a plus
  • Experience with video editing software (e.g., iMovie, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist AARP state offices in creating engaging, branded content for social media platforms, including graphics, videos, and posts
  • Create brand-aligned graphic content to support internal communications, including presentation decks, one-pagers, and other collateral items
  • Support state office website updates and help maintain a consistent and user-friendly experience
  • Contribute to state office advocacy and community engagement campaigns by designing templates, writing content, and collecting results for analysis
  • Help produce and edit digital videos for promotional and informational use
  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm new ideas and ensure content aligns with brand guidelines
  • Perform other tasks as needed to support SCE communication efforts
