About The Position

The Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) is seeking an innovative, dynamic, and forward-thinking Communications and Content Specialist to serve as a brand champion and voice for the Division of Motor Vehicles. This role will lead public relations, media strategy, and employee engagement efforts. The specialist will be responsible for launching public campaigns, managing media inquiries, and crafting digital content to keep the state informed, connected, and engaged. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a keen eye for detail, a passion for communications, and thrives on creative strategy, collaborative teamwork, and making state services accessible and clear.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of relevant professional experience in journalism, public relations or press release writing.
  • A combination of related education in Journalism, Print Journalism, English, Public Relations or Digital Media and professional experience in journalism, public relations or press release writing totaling six (6) years.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in media relations, press outreach, public affairs or government communications.
  • Strong background in writing including news writing, feature writing or corporate communications.
  • Additional years of professional experience in journalism or public relations.
  • Experience utilizing Canva, Drupal, Constant Contact and Google Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, oversee, and evaluate specific Division’s high-level strategic communications programs, public relations initiatives, and marketing activities.
  • Handle incoming media inquiries, recommend spokespersons, develop interview talking points, and execute strategic responses for press coverage and high-visibility events.
  • Write, edit, and produce press materials, news releases, fact sheets, presentations, and content for state publications like the Annual Report.
  • Collaborate with the webmaster on specific Division website development and manage the strategy and scheduling for Division social media channels.
  • Develop and implement employee communication efforts to keep all Divisions informed with timely, accurate, and aligned messaging.
  • Create communications plans for new legislation, policy initiatives, and key project launches.
  • Craft weekly updates for stakeholders and partners and evaluate/review external engagement requests.
  • Serve as a strategic resource for resolving complex or negative public inquiries and standardizing responses to angry consumers.
  • Provide regular reports and strategic recommendations to Leadership and the DOR Communications Director to ensure cross-departmental alignment.
