About The Position

Prometheus Federal Services (PFS) is a trusted partner to federal health agencies. We are seeking a Communications Consultant to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role will play a key part in developing and disseminating educational materials that support suicide prevention efforts. The Communications Consultant serves as a strategic advisor to federal clients, translating program objectives into clear, compelling, and measurable communications strategies. The role requires close collaboration with government stakeholders, cross-functional delivery teams, and senior leaders to develop communications that build awareness, understanding, and support among diverse stakeholder groups. This role blends strategic communications planning with hands-on development of high-quality deliverables across multiple channels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, journalism, public affairs, or a related field required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience delivering strategic communications support within federal government and/or management consulting environments
  • Demonstrated experience writing about sensitive or complex health topics for a general or specialized audience, ideally within a public health, government, or healthcare communications setting.
  • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills and the ability to simplify technical or clinical information without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Experience collaborating with clinical or technical subject matter experts to co-develop public-facing materials.
  • Experience producing multi-format content (toolkits, fact sheets, digital graphics, social media assets, etc.).
  • Ability to work in the U.S. indefinitely without sponsorship
  • Ability to obtain a public trust

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with safe messaging guidelines around suicide prevention (e.g., guidance from SAMHSA, AFSP, or similar organizations) is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of or experience working with Veteran or military-connected populations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop educational materials that promote and support suicide prevention programs and initiatives, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and tailored for Veteran audiences.
  • Partner closely with senior subject matter experts (SMEs), clinicians, and program leadership to translate complex, clinically sensitive information into messaging that is scientifically sound and emotionally resonant.
  • Create and manage the dissemination of a range of educational products — including toolkits, fact sheets, flyers, infographics, and other digital and print artifacts.
  • Ensure all materials align with health literacy guidelines, current clinical guidance, brand guidelines, and accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (public affairs, digital media, clinical teams) to coordinate timely and consistent messaging across channels.
