About The Position

The Mission of the Office of the Secretary of State is to protect the integrity of elections, be an asset to businesses and preserve official history. This role involves ensuring all communication is aligned with the strategic plan, drafting and editing various communication materials, and maintaining proper branding across all agency communications. The position also includes media and public relations tasks such as monitoring media coverage and distributing press releases. Additionally, it involves developing and implementing digital marketing strategies, posting content on social media platforms, and supporting the planning and execution of events. Administrative support, including responding to customer inquiries and organizing files, is also a key part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or a related area.

  • Preferred experience working in government communications or within a public sector organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all communication is aligned with strategic plan
  • Draft and edit press releases, newsletters, speeches, talking points and website content
  • Ensure all agency communications, publications, forms, letters are properly branded
  • Take and edit quality photographs and videos
  • Monitor media coverage, maintain contact lists, and website content
  • Distribute press releases and follow up with journalists
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication and digital marketing strategy
  • Ensure systematic publication of high quality and high impact content, with measured results and reports
  • Post and schedule content on platforms
  • Support the planning, execution and promotion of events and meetings
  • Prepare event materials and information about the audience and other speakers
  • Respond to customers email and inquires
  • Create and update correspondence system including an annual calendar
  • Organize files, photos and branding
