About The Position

The Student Ambassador serves as a key representative of the Schulich School of Music and plays an important role in supporting prospective students, applicants, families, and visitors. Student Ambassadors share their personal experiences, provide information about academic and student life, lead campus tours, assist with recruitment and engagement activities, including entrance auditions, and contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors and future students. This position requires strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, as well as enthusiasm for promoting the Schulich School of Music student experience.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently registered Schulich School of Music student in good academic standing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to speak confidently to groups of varying sizes.
  • Dependable, professional, and punctual.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
  • English communication both verbally and in writing at a level 4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingualism (English and French). Other languages an asset.
  • Previous experience in customer service, peer mentoring, leadership, student engagement, or event support.
  • Familiarity with McGill programs, services, and campus resources.
  • Experience with public speaking and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead informative and engaging school tours for prospective students, families, school groups, and community visitors. Share personal insights about academic programs, student life, campus resources, and extracurricular opportunities. Respond to questions in a professional, accurate, and timely manner. Create a welcoming and inclusive experience for visitors from diverse backgrounds.
  • Assist with undergraduate recruitment events, such as open houses, entrance auditions, orientation programs, and information sessions.
  • Support prospective students throughout the inquiry and admissions process by directing them to appropriate resources.
  • Participate in outreach initiatives aimed at increasing student engagement and recruitment.
  • Communicate with prospective students and families through email, social media, webinars, and other engagement platforms, as assigned.
  • Performs specific editing and reviewing of documents, audio, video and web maintenance as required. Some graphic design and photo editing may be required.
  • Monitors and posts social media content to various platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook.
  • Provide peer-to-peer perspectives on student life and academic experiences.
  • Assist with event preparation, registration, visitor check-in, and post-event follow-up activities.
  • Provides technical support for graphic and photo software as well as some A/V equipment.
  • Collect participant feedback and provide insights to help improve programs and services.
  • Support data entry and administrative tasks related to recruitment and visitor services, as necessary.
