About The Position

The Department of State Treasurer (DST) is seeking a Communications and Digital Specialist for the State and Local Government Finance Division. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, as well as retirement. The anticipated hiring rate for this position is between $70,000 to $80,000, based on available funding and internal equity considerations. This position will have the ability to telework one day per week once fully oriented. This position has been designated as non-exempt in accordance with North Carolina General Statute § 126-5 (c1) (24). In furtherance of the Department of State Treasurer's existing ethics and transparency programs, this position is subject to the ethics and conflict of interest requirements of the Department of State Treasurer Supplemental Ethics Policy (Tier 2 Ethics Policy).

Requirements

  • Experience in writing for internal, external and /or social media materials.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of web maintenance, including CMS, digital best practices and attention to end-use experience
  • Ability to copy/edit and adapt writing to AP Style
  • A bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This is not an entry-level position.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Creativity and ability to develop ideas and scripts when working with complex ideas.
  • Experience with principles of graphic design.
  • Experience writing about or working with local governments
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Write and/or copyedit media advisories, press releases and blog posts related to State and Local Government Finance Division (SLGFD)
  • Assist with maintaining SLGFD website, intranet blog and publicly posted documents
  • Maintain working knowledge of ADA Title II requirements and WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
  • Create, edit and distribute statewide communications to units of local government
  • Produce or assist with PowerPoint and other visual presentations for SLGFD staff
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for communications related to SLGFD
  • Attend regular meetings with SLGFD staff
  • Document agency activities and communication to maximize positive internal and external media exposure
  • Draft or assist with video scripts and evergreen content to promote SLGFD concepts, accomplishments and capabilities
