About The Position

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) is seeking a qualified Communications and Content Specialist. SVHEC provides access to higher education, workforce training, innovative industry services, and advanced facilities. The center's mission is to advance Southern Virginia’s economic potential through education, innovation, and collaboration. This role supports the agency’s communications, marketing, and outreach efforts by creating content and stories, designing and printing marketing materials, managing digital and social media, developing written communications for various audiences, and providing program and event support. The position also offers occasional support to the SVHEC’s PearsonVUE Assessment Center.

Requirements

• Experience using design software to create print and digital assets
• Experience writing a variety of communications including documents, social media posts, and/or media releases
• Knowledge of marketing and communications principles, including branding, audience targeting, and message development
• Knowledge of social media platforms, content strategies, and current digital trends
• Knowledge of graphic design principles, including layout, typography, and visual hierarchy
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to develop clear, concise, and engaging content for multiple audiences
• Graphic design skills with the ability to create visually appealing marketing materials using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
• Social media management skills, including content planning, scheduling, and engagement
• Content creation skills, including writing, basic photography, and/or video capture/editing
• Editing and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail
• High school graduate or equivalent
