About The Position

Executive Council works to ensure effective strategic planning and coordinated policy development and communications across government, engages Albertans and the broader global community, and promotes a vibrant and innovative public service. In addition to policy, protocol, communications and Cabinet functions, Executive Council includes Communications and Public Engagement (CPE). CPE is the Government of Alberta's full-service communications, public relations and marketing department. Its mandate is to enhance communications between Albertans and the Government of Alberta. CPE’s expert staff provide specialized services across the spectrum of communications including writing, social media, media relations, event coordination, issues management, crisis communications, digital communications, advertising, marketing, graphic design, public engagement and translation services. The department staffs the communications branches in all ministries of government, and provides centralized research, engagement, advertising and media services to government.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Journalism or a related field.
  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in communications planning and product development (e.g. speeches, key messages, briefings, social media and web content, news releases and media responses).
  • Experience working both in teams and individually within a communications service setting.
  • Client relations experience and experience working in complex environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver communications content for internal and external audiences, including news releases, speeches, web content, and briefing materials.
  • Research and analyze information to ensure messaging accurately reflects ministry priorities, programs, and policies.
  • Draft and support communications plans and strategies, including audience research, key messaging, and project coordination.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders, acting as a liaison to gather information and support communications initiatives.
  • Coordinate media materials and support media relations, including preparing bulletins and responding to routine inquiries.
  • Edit and quality-check communications products to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with standards.
