Our Rail and Transit Solutions team performs a wide range of engineering activities related to the design and deployment of complex systems. This includes managing technical processes across the full systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, design, integration, verification, validation, and systems assurance. Parsons is currently seeking a Communication Systems Engineer – Voice and Radio to support projects in Western Canada and beyond. In this role, you will contribute to the engineering and design of advanced transit command, control, and communications systems as a key member of the Parsons team. The ideal candidate is organized, technically strong, and able to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders across a range of technical backgrounds and management levels. This role would be based out of our Burnaby, Canada office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical/scientific discipline degree related to area of specialty
  • 5+ years of related professional and experience in at least two of the following areas: IP phone systems, LTE/P25 radio systems, Land mobile radio, Operator dispatcher systems
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.), or the ability to obtain accreditation in British Columbia.
  • Working knowledge of a formal systems engineering approach and the ability to contribute within that framework.
  • Understanding of Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) principles and systems safety.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a multidisciplinary systems environment.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including active listening and clear presentation.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and guide others in the development of analyses and reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Visio, and Excel.

  • Candidates with a combination of design office experience and hands-on field experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design communication systems, including voice and data radio systems and dispatcher systems.
  • Prepare engineering documentation such as plans, interface control documents, specifications, installation drawings, analyses, test plans, and test reports in support of transit projects.
  • Develop procurement documentation and provide technical support for components, subsystems, and systems, including technical specifications, vendor evaluations, and post-award support.
  • Interface with and provide technical guidance to other design disciplines, including fixed facilities, trackwork, PS&D, guideway, and other internal teams, as well as external stakeholders such as clients, architects, code consultants, authorities having jurisdiction, and major suppliers.
  • Support field construction and installation activities.
  • Supervise, review, or witness testing and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support commissioning and start-up of mass transit communications systems.
  • Assist with customer staff training.
  • Prepare operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Coordinate with project engineering and test team members to provide systems engineering support.
  • Travel as required in support of projects and proposals.
