Job Description: As a global leader in rail and transit, Parsons delivers integrated, digital, and safety‑critical solutions that keep complex transit systems operating safely, reliably, and efficiently. Our teams apply a systems engineering‑led approach across the full lifecycle—from early planning and concept design through integration, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness. Our Rail and Transit Solutions group is responsible for the design and implementation of complex communication and security systems. We manage requirements, design, integration, verification, and validation activities to ensure systems assurance and long-term performance. We are seeking a Communications Systems Engineer – CCTV & Intrusion/Access Control to join our team and support major transit projects in Western Canada and beyond. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical/scientific discipline degree related to area of specialty (NOTE: Newly-hired PhD graduates are typically hired into this level.)
  • 5+ years of related professional experience
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas: IP CCTV cameras and Video Management Systems (VMS) Fence / perimeter protection and detection systems Building intrusion and protection/detection systems
  • P.Eng designation in British Columbia, or eligibility for registration within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Familiarity with formal Systems Engineering processes and methodologies.
  • Understanding of RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) and System Safety principles.
  • Ability to work effectively: In a multidisciplinary, systems-oriented project environment, and Independently with minimal supervision when required.
  • Strong communication skills: Effective verbal communication, including clear presentation of technical information to varied audiences. Strong written skills for reports, specifications, and technical correspondence; ability to mentor others in preparing documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with computer tools, including: MS Office (particularly Word, Excel, and Visio)

Nice To Haves

  • A combination of design office experience and hands-on field or construction experience with communications/security systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs for communication and security systems, including: IP CCTV systems and Video Management Systems (VMS) Building intrusion and access control systems Perimeter and fence intrusion detection systems
  • Prepare engineering documentation to support transit projects, including: Plans, drawings, and layouts Interface control documents Technical specifications Installation drawings Analyses, test plans, and test reports
  • Prepare and support procurement documentation at component, subsystem, and system levels: Technical specifications Vendor evaluation and selection support Post-award technical support
  • Collaborate and interface with internal and external stakeholders, including: Internal design teams (fixed facilities, trackwork, power, guideway, etc.) Clients and owner’s representatives Architects and code consultants Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) Major equipment suppliers and integrators
  • Support construction and installation activities in the field: Address site queries and resolve technical issues Provide guidance during installation and integration Supervise, review, or witness system testing and troubleshooting.
  • Support system commissioning and “setting to work” of mass transit communications and security systems.
  • Assist with customer and operator staff training.
  • Develop and review Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals and related documentation.
  • Coordinate with project engineering and test teams to ensure proper systems engineering support across the lifecycle.
  • Travel as required to support projects, design reviews, site activities, or proposal efforts.
