About The Position

Change.org is seeking a Fixed-Term Communication Strategist to drive media coverage for major, user-led campaigns, with a specific focus on conservative campaigns. This role is crucial for amplifying user voices and achieving campaign success. The strategist will report to the Senior Communications Manager and be a key part of the MarComms team, leading high-impact campaigns through media coverage, influencer engagement, and content creation across various channels. They will leverage current news and partnerships with petition starters to maximize campaign reach and impact. Change.org is a global platform dedicated to democracy, investing in AI to empower individuals and foster common-ground solutions. The core petitions platform, used by over 100 million people annually, is undergoing a significant rebuild with new tools to enable civic leadership. A new platform is launching soon to identify areas of agreement and mobilize people for common-ground solutions. To achieve this vision, Change.org is expanding its team at the intersection of technology and social impact to build healthier democracies worldwide.

Requirements

  • Strong writing skills, with experience writing press notes, marketing emails, and social content.
  • Strong media skills, including experience working with and pitching to journalists.
  • Experience participating in media strategies that gain the attention of key stakeholders.
  • Experience using media to build brand affinity.
  • Extensive network of relationships with journalists and influencers who cover conservative issues.
  • Demonstrated success organizing social campaigns and getting the attention of decision-makers.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapid response environment.
  • Experience building complex, data-driven campaign strategies.
  • A strong sense of what petitions will perform well on social media.
  • Willingness to work across differences, including providing support to policy-compliant campaigns that may not align with personal views but align with Change.org’s commitment to being an open platform.
  • 3-6 years working in social organizing, campaigning, or advocacy.
  • 7+ years working in communications.

Responsibilities

  • Identify campaigns for testing via email, social media, and press that would resonate with conservative media.
  • Consistently secure top-tier media coverage for a select number of powerful campaigns.
  • Consistently engage social media influencers to promote campaigns within their portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the social team to generate high-performing content for Change.org's channels.
  • Support petition starters in driving their campaigns to victory and in communicating with the press.
  • Write brand emails that perform well across Change.org's email audience.
  • Stay informed about compelling news stories to aid in campaign selection and escalation.
  • Utilize media to drive campaign impact, victory, and brand awareness, including pitching to press, building reporter lists, and suggesting stories for social media.
