About The Position

The Communication Assistant (Intern) is responsible for completing various duties necessary for the functioning of the Communications & Media department. This role provides clerical and secretarial support, including organizing files, information, and inventory of departmental items. The intern will also assist in disseminating information in accordance with the Director of Communications & Media for the Southeastern California Conference. This is a paid position that is temporary (3 months) and part time (20 hours minimum required).

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Some related office experience is desired.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to write read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write clearly and informatively; ability to write articles for various publications.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups.
  • Creative skills and ability to deal with deadlines and multiple projects is necessary.
  • Demonstrated writing skills (published articles, stories, etc.).
  • Must have commitment to spiritual development.
  • Good people skills are required.
  • Analytical—develops systems to work through the complex challenges.
  • Problem Solving—identifies problems and addresses issues in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk, talk and hear.

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of computer skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of the use of photography and video equipment is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones, assists callers, or directs them to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in preparing materials for meetings, workshops, programs, publications, etc.
  • Assists in the operation, maintenance of inventory, and organizational methods for the department.
  • Organizes miscellaneous physical and digital files by sorting and storing.
  • Processes vouchers for vendors and department employees.
  • Maintains archives and hard bound copies of Pacific Union Recorder.
  • Provides clerical support such as copying, scanning, or printing documents.
  • Assists in maintaining a digital file organizational system for current and archived files and projects.
  • Assists in organizing and preparing content for the Conference website.
  • Maintain and oversee use of SECC media equipment.
  • Photograph, sort, and edit photos from events or meetings as requested.
  • Miscellaneous related duties as requested and assigned by the Communications & Media Director.
