You’ll be the strategic driver behind Wake County’s Communicable Disease Program, providing leadership across core public health services, including: Communicable Disease Surveillance: Monitor infectious disease trends, respond to outbreaks, and guide data‑driven decision‑making. Tuberculosis Prevention & Control: Oversee clinical operations and ensure evidence‑based care. Refugee Health Services: Support culturally responsive health assessments and care coordination. Disease Intervention Services: Lead a dedicated team working to reduce disease transmission and empower community members. Health Education & Outreach: Champion public health messaging that informs and protects all residents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Five years of job-related experience, including three years of supervisor experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Technical expertise in communicable disease
  • Strong managerial skills with demonstrated leadership experience
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of compliance with local, state, and federal communicable disease laws and regulations
  • Communicable disease outbreak response knowledge
  • Experience with the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System (or applicable disease registry)
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm during high stress situations and adapt as circumstances change

Responsibilities

  • Set program goals and move teams toward them with clarity, motivation, and accountability.
  • Develop innovative strategies to strengthen infectious disease surveillance, prevention, and intervention efforts.
  • Analyze epidemiological data to shape actionable insights and program improvements.
  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage budgets, grants, contracts, and program performance metrics.
  • Partner with healthcare providers, schools, long‑term care facilities, and cross‑agency leaders.
  • Lead and support multidisciplinary teams, including: Communicable Disease Surveillance Team, Tuberculosis & Refugee Health Clinic, Communicable Disease Quality Assurance Team, Disease Intervention Specialists.
