About The Position
The Health and Human Services Agency is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Communicable Disease Investigator. This role involves performing non-criminal investigations, counseling, and education regarding communicable diseases. Investigators must understand, interpret, and work within public health laws, rules, and regulations that govern HIV disease, sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, and other communicable or infectious diseases. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly develop rapport with a diverse range of individuals, discussing highly sensitive topics including medical and personal information such as sexual history and practices, to conduct thorough investigations and interviews. Public Health Services is dedicated to community wellness and protecting health in San Diego County, working to prevent disease spread, outbreaks, environmental hazards, and injuries, while promoting healthy behaviors, responding to disasters, and assuring the quality and accessibility of health services.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university or a certified foreign studies equivalency in a health-related science; OR , A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university or a certified foreign studies equivalency in a behavioral, social or natural science, or a closely related field AND one (1) year of experience in communicable disease investigations; OR , An associate degree from an accredited U.S. college/university or a certified foreign studies equivalency in a behavioral, social or natural science, or a closely related field AND three (3) years of experience in communicable disease investigations; OR , Five (5) years of work experience in communicable disease investigations.
- A current CPR card is required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this class.
- A State of California Phlebotomy License must be obtained within six (6) months of employment, or an equivalent license that allows phlebotomy such as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license with special certification for Intravenous (IV) Therapy and Blood Withdrawal.
- Incumbents in the HIV, STD, and Hepatitis program are required to complete HIV Counseling and Testing Certification within six (6) months of employment.
