About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services is seeking a Commissioning Engineer (CxE) to join their highly creative and efficient team. This role is responsible for tackling challenging problems in building and supporting Amazon-owned data centers. The Commissioning team (ACx) evaluates and manages construction quality according to engineering designs to meet customer requirements. The CxE will support vendors, contractors, and other teams involved in the commissioning of various critical systems within data centers, including medium and low voltage power systems, generators, UPS, HVAC, chilled water systems, Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), testing and balancing, and pumps and hydronic systems. AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly and customers have continuous access to innovation. The team collaborates across various disciplines to deliver high standards of safety and security while optimizing costs, fostering an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and empowers ownership.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • 4+ years of commissioning experience
  • 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Responsibilities

  • Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Review design documents and equipment submittals.
  • Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT).
  • Manage third-party commissioning vendors in the performance of onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
  • Resolve technical issues and address schedule impacts and coordination demands onsite.
  • Share lessons learned to contribute to team growth and program improvements.
  • Provide multi-discipline input into scheduling, test script development, designing, and planning of projects.
  • Continuously audit Cx vendors' activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Regularly report commissioning progress and metrics of assigned projects to the Regional Commissioning Manager.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously to achieve key milestones and deliver data center capacity.
  • Manage project budgets as approved by Finance.
  • Coordinate site activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure issues have a clear path to resolution.
  • Manage the project commissioning vendor, ensuring they execute functional tests, identify issues, determine criticality, propose solutions, and document findings.
  • Escalate project turnover risks to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Communicate lessons learned to peers and participate in initiatives to drive improvement to the commissioning program.
