About The Position

Johnson & Johnson is separating its Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone company, operating as DePuy Synthes. This Co-op position is within the Commercialized Product Development (CPD) team, which focuses on sustaining joint reconstruction prosthetics (knees, hips, shoulders) currently on the market. The CPD team collaborates with various business functions including marketing, regulatory, front-end research, supply chain, and quality. This role offers the opportunity to learn and apply engineering analysis, design tools, and problem-solving skills to resolve engineering questions, non-conformances, change assessments, and investigations for existing products. It also involves understanding the design control process, from identifying patient and regulatory needs to assessing documentation and managing risks. The co-op will observe manufacturing operations and provide support for improvement projects, with opportunities for training and networking with expert engineers and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

  • Completion of Undergraduate Freshman year at an accredited University is required.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the Co-op session (January to August 2027).
  • Available to work a minimum of three alternating semester rotations or combined consecutive rotations.
  • Only students that have completed at least their first year of college by the start of their first work rotation will be considered.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software, including intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the Warsaw, Indiana site.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status.
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
  • If under 18 years of age, may need to obtain necessary working papers or documentation required by state law and get a parent’s consent for the background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with confirmed leadership, hands-on work experience, and/or participation in campus/community service activities are preferred.
  • Highly motivated and can work independently on one or multiple projects under general direction and can exhibit an attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal), including experience presenting in front of multidisciplinary audiences, and attending team meetings face to face and by teleconference.
  • Experience with 3-D modeling and engineering drawings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply engineering analysis methods, design tools, and problem-solving in resolving engineering questions, non-conformances, change assessments, and investigations of products currently sold in the field.
  • Learn and understand aspects of the design control process, including identifying patient and regulatory needs, completing assessments of development and design documentation, identifying and controlling risks, and reviewing functional or mechanical testing.
  • Understand engineering drawings and 3D modeling concepts; additional design work may be assigned.
  • Observe manufacturing facility operations and provide development engineering support for manufacturing improvement projects.
  • Take advantage of training courses and extra learning opportunities.
  • Interface with expert engineers, cross-functional business partners, and a co-op network.
