About The Position

National Commercial Services, part of First American, provides service for commercial real estate transactions ranging from simple to multi-property and multi-state deals. The Commercial Underwriter supports the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies by applying underwriting standards, providing counsel and authorization, and advising on real estate settlement services. The role is based in Denver and contributes to commercial real estate solutions for employees and customers.

The position is open for applications on an ongoing basis until filled. The annual pay range is $97,700 to $130,300. Pay may depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, and geographic location.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of title underwriting experience; commercial experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with real estate law, including federal and state regulations.
• Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of real estate title and settlement processes.
• Strong analytical rigor and business acumen.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to provide alternative solutions or convey unpopular information tactfully.
• Ability to collaborate, act decisively, and build relationships internally and externally.
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to multitask, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner.
• Ability to think abstractly and develop creative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Provide underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel and customers related to issuing real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
• Underwrite the issuance of title insurance using established standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits.
• Guide company personnel in performing real estate settlement services.
• Issue underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.
