About The Position

The Senior Manager, Commercial Strategy develops the Strategic Account Plans for their respective brand that incorporates Brand Objectives and Strategies, and Shopper Insights to help achieve the Brand’s budgeted sales and profit goals. The Senior Manager, Commercial Strategy drives the trade strategies and brand sales fundamental plan through the business planning process through partnership with Sales and Marketing to optimize plans that deliver growth for their brand. This role also serves as a liaison between all internal cross-functional partners to represent their designated brand.

Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to BS/BA degree (MBA desirable) plus 8 years of progressive sales experience in the consumer package goods industry or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Sales experience handling a top account
  • Fit to win competencies: builds effective teams, cultivates innovation, learning and change agility, customer focus, action oriented/drives results, collaborates globally and locally, plans & aligns, drives stakeholder engagement, effectively manages suppliers.
  • Financial Acumen: excellent financial management skills to critically assess strategic goals and cost investments versus results; ability to streamline operational processes. Experience in a basic understanding of brand P&Ls, ROI, and budget management
  • Understand the customer and the marketplace: exceptional knowledge of retailer landscape and how to impact the total market. Understand the impact of individual decisions to Bayer’s total business and relevant long term implications. Prior direct selling leadership experience with a top national retailer and commercial strategy or sales operations experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Negotiation Skills: proven experience in influence management. Proven ability to develop win-win solutions to complex situations and superior problem solving skills
  • Robust analytical capabilities across a variety of data sources and platforms with ability to translate into action-minded recommendations
  • Advanced computer literacy skill required, specifically MS Excel and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of the annual Strategic Account Plans for their designated brand pod, driving Bayer brand business goals in line with Customer Requirements while leveraging all data sources including consumer/shopper insights and syndicated data. The account plan includes promotional, pricing, distribution, and shelving strategies and tactics. Assist in key sales with the customer.
  • Serve as the voice of Sales and Customer with Marketing providing Sales perspective and POV and proactively champions/influences sales aspects of key initiatives such as: 4 P’s (promotional, placement, product/ assortment, pricing), Timing, Trade activation needs, Customer response, Competitive Intelligence
  • Oversee the development of new item launch strategy and sales. communications, including: Launch distribution goals, Promotional strategies and tactics, Shelving objectives, Shopper strategies and tactics, Pricing objectives New Item Launch materials, Presenting the new item to the sales organization and Customers.
  • Act as an organizational advocate to enhance understanding and potential application of shopper engagement, while driving ongoing analysis, research, and evaluation to evolve trade strategies. Lead communication and sharing of best practice learning to Field Sales and Brand Management
  • Oversee and supports the business planning process for assigned business units; ensures information provided is accurate, on-time, clear, actionable and meets sales and retailer requirements.
  • Serve as the internal voice of the customer sales teams and lead/address any national or retailer specific strategic opportunities or issues with appropriate cross-functional stakeholders including, but not limited to, marketing, finance, operations/supply and demand planning, project management, I&D. Serve as liaison with Bayer Research in scoping and fielding shopper research
