About The Position

Mid-Continent Group, a subsidiary of Great American, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializes in commercial casualty coverages with an emphasis on general liability for the construction, energy, and difficult-to-place business in other industries. This role is for a Commercial Senior Production Underwriter to join the Underwriting team at Mid-Continent Group. Employees in this role are expected to be on-site a minimum of four days a week, with the potential to work one day remotely. Core in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but will be determined by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, 5 years of related Commercial General Liability, Automobile, Excess/Umbrella, and Inland Marine experience is required.
  • Must have the ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of or progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with Company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Analyze risk data to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.
  • Collaborate with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain necessary information and clarify details.
  • Order and review additional reports and screens, such as motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, outside inspections, etc., to inform decisions.
  • Ensure proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.
  • Evaluate existing policies for potential renewal or modification.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers, focusing on generating new business and retaining profitable business.
  • Interpret, explain, and market products and services.
  • Perform other related duties.
