About The Position

Acuity is seeking experienced Commercial Production Underwriters to select, retain and price commercial insurance risks focused on new business for a selected group of committed agents while adhering to established underwriting policies, practices, and standards. The Commercial Production Underwriter provides counsel, training, and assistance of a highly technical and professional nature on all lines of commercial insurance while enthusiastically promoting Acuity commercial products to ensure strong growth of profitable business. This position may be filled at either the Commercial Production Underwriter or Senior Commercial Production Underwriter level depending on the candidate's experience and demonstrated capabilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of commercial underwriting experience is preferred, with at least two years underwriting middle market
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively sell Acuity
  • Ability to build deep relationships
  • Ability to underwrite large, complex commercial lines accounts
  • Ability to communicate decisions tactfully and navigate challenging conversations
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic

  • Several years of highly successful experience in a production focused underwriting role
  • Established record of sustained, high-impact growth of a profitable book of business

Responsibilities

  • Review submissions for commercial lines of insurance. Obtain and analyze needed underwriting information and make sound and consistent underwriting and pricing decisions, in accordance with the Acuity’s underwriting policies, practices, and standards.
  • Actively engage with assigned agents to solicit new business opportunities, while building trusted, collaborative relationships that strengthen long-term partnership and drive profitable growth.
  • Must be prepared to inspect a risk and to immediately make acceptability and pricing decisions.
  • Conduct face to face visits with prospects to sell Acuity.
  • Keep abreast of all company underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines and events affecting the industry.
  • Recommend additional coverages or options to make our proposals more responsive to the insured's needs.
  • Travel throughout assigned territory on a quarterly basis (and more frequently as needed) visiting all assigned agencies during each trip to generate new business and deepen agency relationships.
  • Occasional travel to other territories as needed.
  • New business focused but may also handle renewals and endorsements depending on agency assignments.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to agents and underwriting team.
  • Ensure disciplined documentation, compliance, and data-informed decision-making throughout the underwriting process.
  • Support internal collaboration with areas such as distribution, market strategy, actuarial, and claims.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
