About The Position

The Commercial Market Leader I role is focused on providing leadership of the Commercial Market within the Western Region of CannonDesign. This includes being responsible for developing and leading high-performance diverse teams focused on the development and implementation of the Firmwide Market Business Plan. The Commercial Firmwide Business Plan is diverse, including working with developers on mixed-use districts, pursuing the best brands for high design workplace and experience design, professional sports, science and technology, and luxury hospitality. The Commercial Market for the West Region is largely centered in California but can expand as far East as Denver and as North as Portland and Seattle. The role contributes to the success of the firm by developing and leading business development, client engagement, team leadership, mentoring of people, and advancing the quality of work. The leader will be accountable to integrate the firm's range of design services, managing processes and delivering solid financial performance for the market. This role is an ambassador of the firm's brand, championing Living-Centered Design and bringing the Firm's purpose to help people continuously flourish.

Responsibilities

  • Developing new business opportunities with new and current client partners in the West Region to achieve top-line targets, supporting a minimum 10% growth of the practice year over year.
  • Responsible for the growth and success of the Commercial Market and recruitment of talent.
  • Leading, engaging, and partnering at the highest levels with clients on billable project-specific work.
  • Advancing innovative solutions that differentiate the firm and foster strong long-term client relationships.
  • Acting as a leading voice for the market both externally and internally, visible in speaking events, writing, and other activities that promote the firm and its work.
  • Engaging in activities to advance the firm, the region, the market, and the office.
  • Working with and mentoring market team members and recruiting talented candidates.
  • Advancing strategic initiatives and client pursuit discussions and strategies.
  • Leading the development and execution of a market business plan outlining strategies and actionable items that advance client engagement and development, market differentiation, and team building.
  • Participating and engaging in ways to improve the firm's practice globally.
  • Identifying and actively pursuing new target clients as well as nurturing existing client relationships.
  • Seeking to differentiate CannonDesign in the marketplace and promote the full range of integrated design services.
  • Accountable for the overall top-line results of the market with a personal goal of achieving top-line success of $3M per year in net signed fees.
  • Leading by example and demonstrating commitment to clients by undertaking work in an active way on select client project opportunities.
  • Serving as a client leader and/or subject matter expert where appropriate.
  • Identifying future market trends and opportunities for growth and advancement of the market.
  • Collaborating with Region and Office Leaders, and Client Leaders to ensure bottom-line initiatives are successfully implemented.
  • Achieving a minimum of 15% firm profitability level for the market each year.
  • Assessing, mentoring, coaching, and recruiting staff to build a high-performance team and develop future leaders within the market.
  • Taking ownership for the growth of a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Establishing an environment that encourages leadership, integrity, humility, respect, and responsibility, along with collaboration, experimentation, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
