About The Position

Seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to join a team as the Commercial Lines AVP (Farm/Agri). This role is pivotal in driving underwriting strategy, managing a national portfolio, and leading a team of professionals to achieve financial and operational excellence.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of 10 years of P&C commercial underwriting experience.
5 to 10 years of progressive leadership and management experience.
Proven track record in leading underwriting teams, managing portfolio profitability, and developing underwriting strategies.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated success in strategic planning, operational execution, and leading change initiatives.
Ability to influence organizational outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
Willingness to travel 15-25% of the time.

Nice To Haves

Industry designations such as CPCU, ARM, AFIS, or AINS are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute underwriting strategies aligned with company goals, adapting to market conditions and emerging risks.
Monitor underwriting performance, including rate adequacy, reserve adequacy, and pricing program profitability.
Lead and mentor a team of three direct reports, focusing on talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
Partner with Actuarial, Data & Analytics, Claims, Risk Services, and Compliance teams to address governance and technical capabilities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with agents to gain market insights and identify new business opportunities.
Ensure compliance with underwriting authority delegations, audit criteria, and catastrophe management practices.
Oversee placing and binding of FAC Reinsurance, implement underwriting guidelines, and monitor workflow effectiveness.
Utilize data analytics to assess performance, recommend improvements, and support change management initiatives.
Serve as a liaison between underwriting and other business areas, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
