About The Position

Seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to join a team as the Commercial Lines AVP (Farm/Agri). This role is pivotal in driving underwriting strategy, managing a national portfolio, and leading a team of professionals to achieve financial and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of P&C commercial underwriting experience.
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive leadership and management experience.
  • Proven track record in leading underwriting teams, managing portfolio profitability, and developing underwriting strategies.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, operational execution, and leading change initiatives.
  • Ability to influence organizational outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to travel 15-25% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry designations such as CPCU, ARM, AFIS, or AINS are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute underwriting strategies aligned with company goals, adapting to market conditions and emerging risks.
  • Monitor underwriting performance, including rate adequacy, reserve adequacy, and pricing program profitability.
  • Lead and mentor a team of three direct reports, focusing on talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Partner with Actuarial, Data & Analytics, Claims, Risk Services, and Compliance teams to address governance and technical capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents to gain market insights and identify new business opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting authority delegations, audit criteria, and catastrophe management practices.
  • Oversee placing and binding of FAC Reinsurance, implement underwriting guidelines, and monitor workflow effectiveness.
  • Utilize data analytics to assess performance, recommend improvements, and support change management initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between underwriting and other business areas, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

Benefits

  • Base Salary: $160,000 - $220,000
  • Bonus: 20% Target Bonus
