About The Position

Amerisure is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter (Renewal Underwriter) to join their team in the North. This hybrid role involves working 3 days in the office and 2 from home, based out of their Farmington Hills MI, Lisle IL, or Indianapolis IN office. The position is responsible for evaluating and managing assigned accounts, maintaining a portfolio of renewal accounts, and making informed underwriting decisions in alignment with Amerisure’s risk appetite and strategic objectives. The role emphasizes data-driven risk assessment, effective negotiation, and collaboration with agency partners to achieve underwriting goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • 1 year underwriting experience in commercial or middle market insurance.
  • Proficient computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within department, across the organization and with external customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, underwrite, price, and negotiate assigned accounts in accordance with Amerisure risk evaluation process and renewal framework.
  • Analyze and assess risk factors to ensure adherence to Amerisure’s underwriting philosophy.
  • Provide service excellence to agency partners, adhering to established service standards to strengthen agency relationships and support business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key agency contacts to facilitate effective negotiations and ensure successful account acquisition and retention.
  • Attain established underwriting performance metrics for both new and renewal accounts.
  • Maintain organized and thorough underwriting documentation in accordance with Amerisure’s standards and guidelines.
  • Utilize underwriting tools to effectively support risk assessment and decision-making.
