Underwriter, Middle Market
About The Position
Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriter on our Middle Market team. Our Middle Market Underwriting team offers diverse multi-line capabilities targeted at select industry verticals such as real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services, technology, and manufacturing. We work through a network of retail brokers who share our commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition. This position will be based out of our Irvine, CA, Los Angeles, CA or San Francisco, CA office. Requirements
- Minimum 1-2 years of underwriting experience.
- Experience producing and underwriting accounts of all sizes with major brokerage houses, agents, and specialty retailers.
- Team player with grit, and collaborative by nature

- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate Underwriting Risks: Drive submission activity and determine risk acceptability using company guidelines.
- Demonstrate Technical Expertise: Apply deep product knowledge across multiple Middle Market P&C insurance lines.
- Execute Strategic Pricing: Price risks accurately using sophisticated financial models and diverse structures.
- Maintain Underwriting Discipline: Use specialized tools to ensure thorough account reviews and complete documentation.
- Analyze Market Trends: Monitor state regulations, territory issues, and underwriting data to drive results.
- Cultivate Broker Relationships: Build strong connections through active marketing, client meetings, and regional travel.
