About The Position

The Commercial Landman will report to and assist the Land Operations Land Managers on all aspects of deal sourcing, evaluation and negotiation of potential transactions, land due diligence and closing preparation, and post-closing document management for Chord’s active “Ground Game” deal flow. This role requires strong data gathering and analysis, creativity, contract analysis, mapping, and title review to assess acreage position and deal quality, and to support corporate development decision making. This position is located in Houston, TX. A hybrid work schedule with remote work on Mondays and Fridays as an option. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of relevant Land experience
  • Strong Excel and software skills
  • Advanced negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
  • Strong transactional skills relating to trades and acquisitions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in fast-paced and fluid environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Land Management or related field
  • Experience in the Exploration and Production sector of the Oil and Gas industry
  • Experience with Enertia, or a similar Land/Accounting ERP
  • Acumen with emerging technologies as they relate to Land functions

Responsibilities

  • Lead land evaluation and due diligence for acquisitions and trades, including title review, ownership verification, and contract analysis
  • Utilize ArcGIS or other mapping/GIS tools to evaluate acreage positions, identify leasehold gaps, and support acquisition and trade strategy
  • Analyze land, ownership, and production data to evaluate deal economics and inform trade and acquisition decisions
  • Negotiate, draft, and interpret a broad range of land contracts including Purchase and Sale Agreements, Joint Operating Agreements, Exploration and Participation Agreements, Farmouts/Farmins, Acreage Trades, Assignments, Oil and Gas Leases, and Confidentiality Agreements
  • Review title opinions, ownership reports, and lease schedules to calculate working interest and net revenue interest for prospective and existing assets
  • Work with legal counsel to clear title and resolve issues identified in diligence
  • Coordinate with field landmen and advising attorneys on title and lease matters supporting transaction closing and asset integration
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Land, Legal, Engineering, Regulatory, and Geology on transaction execution
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of regulatory rules, procedures, and requirements including those of the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and state commissions
  • Acquire, trade, and divest leasehold to consolidate holdings in areas of interest
  • Manage ongoing contractual matters and obligations associated with Chord's assets
  • Prepare and deliver clear, executive-level presentations of land due diligence findings, deal economics, and transaction recommendations to senior and executive management to support corporate development decisions
  • Maintain an active network of in-basin peers to understand opportunities and drivers of peer companies such that transactions can be crafted to achieve mutual goals
