Commercial Insurance Inspector
About The Position
EXL Risk Control is seeking self-directed independent contractors to perform onsite commercial insurance surveys and inspections in the Staten Island, New York area, locations within approximately 15 miles, and West Brooklyn. Inspectors work from their own home or office and are paid contract fees for each completed assignment, with fees negotiable based on experience and the characteristics of selected jobs. The role involves assessing commercial businesses for hazards and providing insurance clients with risk control reports containing information used to underwrite policies and, when appropriate, recommendations to control or correct potential loss-producing conditions. An online certification option of 15 hours may be available to candidates without relevant experience.
Requirements
- Be self-directed and able to work as an independent contractor.
- Have excellent communication skills.
- Be proficient with computers.
- Meet client quality and timeliness standards.
- Provide a digital camera or tablet, computer, printer, high-speed internet access, reliable vehicle, measuring device, and Auto and General Liability Insurance.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in commercial insurance, real estate, inspection, construction, claims, loss control, underwriting, and/or fire and safety.
- Relevant experience may be substituted with a 15-hour online certification option.
Responsibilities
- Schedule onsite surveys with customers.
- Prepare and provide risk control reports to insurance industry clients.
- Manage accepted assignments and secure customer appointments within the local territory.
- Complete work assignments on time.
- Evaluate commercial operations to identify hazards and improve safety.
- Assess businesses for coverage including Property and General Liability, and other commercial lines such as Workers Compensation, Auto/Fleet, Products Liability, Inland Marine, and Builders Risk.
