About The Position

Public Agency Resources (PARS), a subsidiary of Willdan Group Inc., has an opening for a full-time Commercial/Residential Inspector in the Space Coast/Brevard County, FL area. This role involves performing inspections of both residential (1- & 2-family dwellings) and commercial/multifamily buildings to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code and applicable local technical amendments. The inspector will also review plans, issue notices of violation, and communicate with contractors, builders, homeowners, architects, and engineers. We offer two compensation tiers based on certification level: Residential + Commercial Inspector at $45–$55 per hour, and Residential/Commercial Inspector + Plans Examiner at $50–$60 per hour.

Requirements

  • Valid Florida Inspector License: “BN” (Residential 1-& 2-family dwelling inspector. Required Commercial/Standard Inspector Preferred) categories.
  • Familiarity with the Florida Building Code (both Residential and Building portions).
  • Valid Florida driver’s license; ability to travel within the jurisdiction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the Florida Building Code (residential & commercial).
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent observational, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Professional demeanor and effective public interaction.
  • Proficiency with inspection software and digital reporting systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in construction inspection or related field.
  • Compliance with continuing education requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or coursework in construction technology, architecture, or engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of new construction, additions, renovations, and repairs for 1- & 2-family homes.
  • Verify compliance with the residential portion of the Florida Building Code.
  • Review approved plans and permits for residential projects.
  • Issue notices of non-compliance or stop-work orders and follow up until corrections are made.
  • Communicate with homeowners, contractors, and builders regarding findings.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and enter results into tracking systems.
  • Provide customer service and code interpretation assistance.
  • Perform inspections of commercial buildings, multifamily dwellings beyond 2 units, and mixed-use facilities.
  • Review and interpret building plans/specifications and inspect construction phases for compliance.
  • Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and developers.
  • Issue violation notices, stop-work orders, and follow-up inspections.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain documentation.
  • Stay current on code changes, construction methods, and participate in continuing education.
