About The Position

The Town of Prescott Valley is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Plans Examiner to join our Development Services team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring quality development by reviewing building plans for compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards, while also supporting key departmental initiatives that enhance service delivery and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate brings a strong analytical mindset, a commitment to public service, and the ability to work cross-functionally to help guide projects from submittal through completion.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering or closely related field
  • Three (3) years of preparing plans and/or construction experience.
  • Must possess certification from the International Code Conference as a Residential or Commercial Plans Examiner or be able to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
  • The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in on-the-job training of new team members.
  • Collaborate with all team members in a way that builds upon ideas and take personal accountability and ownership of projects, role, and assignments.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers on a daily basis. This includes addressing and resolving customer questions as able, and referring complex inquiries, requests, or complaints to appropriate staff.
  • Review building plans; interacts with the Planning and Zoning departments, Public Works, Engineering, contractors, architects, Fire department and others as needed.
  • Review and study code; maintain familiarity and compliance with building codes, ADA, National Electrical Code, International Residential Code, International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, International Fuel; Gas Code, International Energy Conservation Code and International Plumbing Code.
  • Conducts technical research, assesses information and data, and makes recommendations related to the Building Codes.
  • Compose correspondence; proofread and edit; enter, scan, update and maintain information in spreadsheets, databases, and reports.
