About The Position

The Commercial HVAC Technician, II will be responsible for overseeing, developing, and driving continuous improvements within preventative maintenance schedules for all internal HVAC laboratory and facility equipment at our Dearborn & Detroit, MI locations. This role involves overseeing, responding to, and repairing laboratory and facility HVAC equipment and test stands following the ticket system. The technician will also be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC/R equipment, including cascade refrigeration systems and associated controls. This includes conducting leak detection, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and system commissioning in accordance with EPA regulations. The role requires troubleshooting and repairing various electronic and mechanical-related HVAC systems across different manufacturers, as well as miscellaneous mechanical equipment such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, heat exchangers, valves, pumps, and related HVAC/R components. Support will be provided to internal and external service teams for PM-preventative maintenance and calibrations on test stands per ISO-17025. The technician will complete required documentation in the ticket system in a timely and accurate manner, respond to emergency service calls and equipment failures to minimize downtime, and research regulations to support laboratory efficiency, process improvements, and overall ECU run time. Collaboration with facility personnel, engineers, vendors, and contractors is expected to support operational and project requirements. The role also supports system upgrades, retrofits, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance energy efficiency and reliability, and ensures compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company operating procedures. All other related duties as assigned and adherence to the core values of the LINK Group organization are also part of this role.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or Trade School Certification in HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Minimum of 4 years of Commercial HVAC Experience.
  • Universal EPA certification is required
  • Possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work well independently with a high level of organization and self-motivation.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills.
  • Moderate level of soldering and de-soldering skills.
  • Excellent customer and vendor communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office skills.
  • Possess mental faculties consistent with performing the minimum requirements of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Michigan HVAC license preferred.
  • Allen Bradley PLC experience a plus.
  • Experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing low-temperature industrial HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Familiar with Tescor, CTS, Espec, CSZ, & Thermotron ECU units.
  • Experience in refrigerant charging and recovery.
  • Proven understanding of various styles of electrical & mechanical schematics to complete required tasks for equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Solid understanding of and experience reading various styles of electrical & mechanical schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, respond, and repair laboratory and facility HVAC equipment and test stands following the ticket system.
